From The President - By Todd Michal

Dear Members,

It great to see both aircraft flying so much over the past month. Flight time on the arrow is relatively high as the members build time to meet insurance requirements. In addition to the training time, the Arrow was used on two trips this month to drop students of at college in Springfield and Kansas City (sure beats driving).

We are close to adding a new member, Shiv K Patil, to the club. A membership vote is in progress to admit Shiv into the club. Shiv would be the 13th member in the club leaving 3 remaining openings.

John plans to start the Cessna annual on Friday, 30 April. Most of the annual effort should be completed over the weekend but it may stretch into the following week if unanticipated parts are required. If you can help out during the annual inspection, please let John know when you are available.

Happy Takeoffs!

Todd

Treasurer's Report - by Mike McBride

Flying hours were strong in the past month, with the C172 logging just over 9 hours and the Arrow logging 18 hours. Fuel prices stayed steady; TACAir's retail price is $5.48 per gallon, and our flight charges held steady at $65 and $87 per hour. The Treasury balance is close to where we need it going into Annual.

We have continued to carry the Full member monthly dues level for the time being; the shortfall in the funds are being recovered against the Arrow equity funds for now. We'll true-up on those funds via assessment every two to three months to avoid larger assessments that might impact Full member financials significantly. If you have any questions about the handling of the equity funds and the dues shortfalls, please let me know and I'll explain how I'm handling those.

Equity calculations have also been adjusted slightly to more accurately allocate equity between Full and Limited members, and to reflect Arrow equity shortfalls into Full member share values. If you have questions or concerns about either of those, I'll be glad to discuss in detail.

Fly safely!

Mike

  • Post Light - Bob Zbylut troubleshoot the inoperative white post light and traced it to the switch contacts. After moving the switch back and forth numerous times, the light started to work. We will spray some contact cleaner in the switch to help as well.
  • Turn Coordinator - On 30 March, the turn coordinator was reported as inoperative. It was removed and sent to Century Instrument Corp for repair on 1 April. The turn coordinator was overhauled on work order K136526 and reinstalled in the plane on 19 April.
  • Battery - The Gil-25 battery was replaced with a new Gil-25 battery (S/N G02488240) on 4 April. The old battery was installed in Oct 2007 and no longer passed the emergency capacity test requirements.

  • Engine Monitor Buttons - The button extensions for the engine monitor arrived from JPI and were installed on the engine monitor. They make it much easier to select the various functions.
  • Seat Height Cylinder - A new seat height cylinder (P/N 10-0324, S/N RW4383-31) was installed on the pilot seat on 3 April. The old cylinder had a leak and would allow the seat to lower in a short time. While not a problem for some of our taller pilots, it is much easier to land when you can see over the glare shield.
