From The President - By Charley

Dear Members:

Steve Heidenreich recently sent out an agenda for our upcoming Club Meeting on May 7th. Please let myself or Steve know if we missed anything that should be on the agenda and feel free to bring any new items with you to the meeting. The meeting will start at 9:30 am. We should conclude business by 11:30 and will then stay for a BBQ lunch for all who are able. Thanks to John Waddell for offering to bring food again!

Congratulations to Geoff Gallaway who accomplished his checkout in the Arrow this month!

Dom and John installed wiring and hung lights in the Citabria hangar this month. This was a large task that required working at heights and many hours of labor. The light over the front of the Citabria is currently working and the other large overhead lights should be working by the end of the week. Thanks Dom and John for this huge improvement to our hangars!

T.J. is currently accepting reservation requests for the Oshkosh week for all planes. If you would like to take one of the planes to Oshkosh this year, please send your request to T.J. including your first, second and third choice of aircraft if applicable and dates you wish to travel. Our goal is to have all requests collected by May 6th so the drawing of the winning reservation can be completed at the meeting on May 7th. As this is a new process this year, I ask that everyone work together to make this a fair and easily administered process for all. If you have suggestions about how to improve the process, please let me know as I am sure we will identify some clarification or modification as we proceed.

Dom has updated the club handbook with a description of the new procedure which is posted on the website for your reference.

I will be inviting our club flight instructors and prospective members to our BBQ after the meeting on May 7th, this has been a great way to get to meet prospective members and give them a view of our club before they join. I look forward to seeing you all on May 7th.

Safe skies,

Charley

Treasurer's Report - by PIC

Members,

It looks like last month's fuel price was as low as TACair's rate is going to go. The average for the month has gone back up to $5.59, raising the hourly rates to $61, $75, and $99 respectively. Member's can certainly save themselves money by using self-serve or getting fuel from other airports. The monthly rate stays at $119 and the share value went down to $10,670.

I'll have an updated aircraft valuations, summary of our tax return and financial analysis at the May meeting.

Breakfast Formation Flight

On Sunday morning, April 24th, TJ, PIC, Steve, and John flew down in formation to Sparta, Il for breakfast at Lollie's Cafe in the Citabria and Cessna. The weather was a little hazy but we were able to get a few air-to-air photos on the way back to Spirit. TJ plans to organization other formation flights over the summer to various locations.

Wings of Hope Plane Wash

On Saturday morning, April 23rd, Wings of Hope had a plane wash fund raiser and the club took our three aircraft down for a good cleaning. With no good access to water on the field for washing the planes ourselves, the Wings of Hope Plane Wash gave us the opportunity to get the planes washed and support a great cause at the same time. Here are a few photos of the plane wash.

  • Annual Inspection - The annual inspection started on April 25th and is proceeding well. The compression test was good with all compression readings over 76/80. We are replacing some bushings on the LH landing gear as there is a little play in the linkage. The 500 hour magneto inspection is due and the magnetos have been removed for internal inspection.
