From The President - By Steve

Dear Members,

Finally some good flying weather and it is great to see members putting a lot of hours on all 3 planes. I know several pilots have flown to Mount Vernon (KMVN, 94.7nm) for lunch at Bonnie's Cafe (Located in the airport terminal building). For those interested in other options for lunch the ones with restaurants on the field are KUIN (81nm), KDXE (118nm), KMTO (121nm), and a new restaurant opening the end of May at KJEF (71nm). KSAR (54nm) and K15 (101nm) have several restaurants within walking distance. Not exactly "$100 hamburgers" anymore but still fun places to check out.

Buffet Line at Bonnie's Cafe

Mike sent a note out about our club meeting scheduled for June 6. Please get it on your calendar and try to attend. We will do it in the hangar and provide sandwiches and drinks so let Mike Landgraf know whether or not you can make it. Let me know if you have anything for the agenda.

Congratulations to Bill Carrier, Rick Hoyt, and John Waddel for completing their checkout in the RV and Rob Jenner in the Arrow. Much thanks to Pic for getting these guys checked out and keep in mind we recently added Tim Volk as a club check pilot.

Thanks to Larry for fixing the Cessna Tug. The Tug is a big help in putting the Cessna back in the hangar, but when you lifted the tug handle to turn the tug, the tug arms would come loose from the nose wheel. Larry found that the handle support welds under the tug were cracked and when you lifted the handle, the handle would flex and release tension on the arms causing them to come loose. Larry took the tug apart and rewelded the cracked supports and added a support arm to keep the handle from flexing. Now when you lift the tug handle to turn the plane, the arms stay firmly attached to the nose wheel

Safe flying!

Wow! The aircraft flew 90 hours this month.

BALANCE SHEET

Significant Discussions

  • Overall Cash - Our overall cash level is comfortably funded with sufficient growth to get us through next year’s insurance premiums.

    Dues

The officers met and due to increases in insurance premiums, the decision was made to increase dues $5 per month. With the change because of insurance, a reallocation of dues was made. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Condition Inspection - The Condition Inspection was started on 18 April and completed on 22 April. In addition to the normal inspection, the following items were also done.
    1. Installed a new Ram Mount on the copilots canopy rail to support an IPAD or phone.
    2. Installed a new Fuel Selector Valve for smoother tank switching
    3. Installed brake return springs to the pilots and copilots brake cylinders to more positively remove brake pressure when brakes are not pressed.
    4. Installed new baffle on top centerline of the engine to more evenly cool the cylinders. Comparable CHT data from before and after the baffle installation show how effective it is in more evenly cooling the cylinders.

N20843 Cessna 172

  • Rosan Sun Visor - On April 8th, Larry removed the Rosan Sun Visors and reinstalled them correctly to increase the visor protection coverage area.
  • Trim Switch - We had reports of intermittent trim switch operation. Initial ground checks showed the trim switch was working properly. The problem was finally traced to a marginal solder joint on the switch that caused the intermittent trim operation. The joint was resoldered on April 30 and the trim switch now works correctly.
