From The President - By Charley

Dear Members:

A huge thanks to John, Larry, Steve and Tim for getting the Garmin G5, G-Meter, and RH wingtip strobe installed in the Citabria, wow does it look great! We are fortunate to have such a willing group of members to assist with projects like the G5 to keep our planes up to date and relevant.

Because of our great planes, we now have nine people on the waiting list. I keep in touch with the group via email every three months or so with updates and I believe that seven of the people on the list would likely join tomorrow if they could. I just sent out a “check in” email to all of them and will have an updated report for you all next month. As a reminder, we have had good success inviting prospective members to club events in the past and I would like to continue to do so. If you are planning a social or educational event, please just drop me a note and I will get you contact information to include them on your invite. We will continue to invite them to our club meetings for a chance to meet current members.

Steve Heidenreich will be sending out our Fall club meeting request in the next week or two, please keep an eye out for the date. Last year we met near the middle of October, we will probably do something similar this year. If you have agenda items or information you would like discussed, please drop myself or any of the officers a note. We will hold annual club elections during the October meeting as well. If you have interest in an office or would like to nominate someone just drop me a note. We are going to formalize the nomination process a bit this year to give everyone advance visibility to positions open and a chance to submit names before the meeting, this will be out a couple of weeks before the meeting.

It is hard to believe that summer is drawing to a close but I hope everyone will get a chance to enjoy some of the cooler flying weather soon to be upon us!

Safe skies,

Charley

Treasurer's Report - by PIC

Members,

The average price of fuel went down this past month by 18 cents. The resulting hourly rates are now $62, $77, and $101. John was able to get a deal at Oshkosh on the Arrow Jeppesen database subscription (saved $35) and it is now extended thru August 2018. The monthly dues stay the same and the share value is up to $10,658.

This month we did get a check from Sporty's for $5.99 (the club's 5% rebate on purchases) and our 3% US Bank rebate on TACAir fuel truck purchases is now up to $583.06.

N8746V Citabria 7ECA

  • G5 Display and G-Meter - The Garmin G5 display and G-Meter were installed in the Citabria instrument panel this month. The Garmin G-5 is interfaced with the AERA-550 and will show a CDI indicator for any route entered on the AERA. The following Citabria V speeds were programmed into the G5 and appear next to the Airspeed tape:
    • Vne - 162 mph (Never Exceed Speed)
    • Vno - 120 mph (Maximum Structural Cruise)
    • Va - 120 mph (Maneuvering Speed @ 1650 lbs)
    • Vx - 58 mph (Best angle of climb)
    • Vy - 69 mph (Best rate of climb)
  • RH Wingtip Strobe - The power supply for the RH wingtip strobe failed and the best approach was to install a new Whelen, all LED position light/Strobe light, on the RH wingtip that doesn't require a power supply. Whenever the LH strobe or power supply fails, we will replace the LH one with a new unit as well.
  • Alternator issue and Oil Temperature Gauge - On 28 August, TJ reported that the Alternator was not charging (discharge indicated on Ammeter) and the oil temperature gauge was inoperative. The alternator issue was traced to a broken wire at the alternator terminal and was fixed. A replacement Oil temperature gauge was ordered and will be installed as soon as it arrives.
