From The President - By Charley

Dear Members:

It’s hard to believe there are so many things going on in the dead of winter! Thanks to everyone who has had the opportunity to either meet in person or otherwise reach out to our new members over the past few weeks. We have now added three new members as per our decision last year to purchase a Citabria. Don Hamblen, Tim Volk and Rocky Dollarhide have all become official members of the club! I do have one more prospective member who has indicated his interest to join as soon as we are ready but we will still be looking for two more once the Citabria addition is complete. You may remember that we voted to add three members immediately and then the other three once the plane was officially added to the club. I do have a couple of additional “maybe’s” on the waiting list but nothing definite yet. Be sure to keep your ear to the ground for anyone interested in joining and direct them to the club application on our website.

The winter weather has made retrieval of the Citabria a challenge this month. The plan is for the current owner of the plane to fly it to an airport near Akron, OH and then a St. Louis Flying Cub recovery party of John Heilmann, Steve Heidenreich and chief pilot Phil Self will drive to Ohio to meet the plane, receive an orientation, exchange money and fly it back to St. Louis. Phil Self has a tail wheel endorsement and enough time in a Citabria to meet our insurance minimums and has joined our growing ranks of retired people with more time to participate in things like retrieving an airplane! The current plan is for the handoff to occur near March 15th and Phil and John fly it back to Spirit, weather permitting. Thanks for arranging the pickup guys!

I am also happy to report that we now have 24 lockers very close to being fully installed in the hangar. A huge thanks to Chris Tebbe for ordering the hangars and to Mike Landgraf Steve Heidenreich and Chris for assistance with picking them up from Home Depot, assembling and installing them in the hangar. The team is working on how to label the lockers and finalize installation which we should be hearing about in the next week or so. Soon we will all have a great place to leave stuff that we don’t want to tote back and forth to the airport, thanks guys!

Believe it or not, I think that is about all I have to report for this month. Thanks again to everyone who pitches in to make our club great organization that keeps improving over time!

Safe skies,

Charley

Treasurer's Report - by PIC

Members,

Our largest annual bill, insurance, was paid this month, $8.906 (same cost as last year). I've held the monthly dues the same this month and will adjust it in March for the purchase of the Citabria and adding new members. You'll note that I have added an additional asset on the billing statement "Citabria Account" to collect the additional member contributions and the Citabria expenses. The gas prices continue to drop (now at $5.56) which lowers the hourly rates to $72 and $95 respectively. The Share Value went up slightly to $10,968.
