From The President - By Steve

Dear Members,

It looks like some nice flying weather is finally coming around and about time after what the first half of February had to offer. With the better weather, several members are taking the opportunity to get checked out in the RV. Much thanks to Chief Pilot Mike Piccirilli for his services getting members checked out. If there are any CFI's in the club that would want to be a club check pilot please contact Mike.

With all the airplanes on line and some better weather John Heilmann, Larry Wehrman and I took the Arrow and the RV to Quincy for lunch. John got some nice pics as we flew a loose formation for part of the flight. Prior to the flight, the importance of using a checklist was brought home as we found a rough engine during runup. Thanks to Larry for finding the loose connections in the electronic ignition on cylinders 3 and 4. It was a quick fix for someone that knows what he is doing and we were back in the air in no time.

Safe flying!

Steve

BILLING STATEMENT

BALANCE SHEET

Significant Discussions

  • Overall Cash - Our standard operating procedure has the club evaluating dues and aircraft rate per hour on a semi-annual basis (March 15 and September 15). However, since overall cash was lower than we are used to, the officers discussed the levels and agreed current dues and rates are sufficient to continue to operate into the foreseeable future. We will monitor cash as the year progresses but don’t anticipate a change in the short term.
  • Maintenance Funds - The maintenance funds are all at a sufficient level. The RV fund dipped from the new cylinder and new starter ring. The Cessna dipped from a flap roller assembly. We purchased oil for all three aircraft.
  • Overall Cash - Cash will be sufficient for needed payments into the foreseeable future.
  • Aircraft Valuation - Pic will fair value the aircraft as of 3/15/21 per our standard operating procedures.

Dues

2020 vs 2021 Insurance

Although we are not adjusting dues, a reminder of how we currently allocate them:

   Maintenance - by John

N202CR RV-7A

  • Cylinder Replacement - The #3 cylinder replacement was completed on 2 Feb and the aircraft returned to service. On Feb 25th, we changed the oil and filter after the fist 13 hours of cylinder break-in. While there is very small amount of metal in the filter, it is consistent with what you would see breaking in a new cylinder. We plan to change the oil again at the upcoming annual inspection in April.
  • Flat Tire - On 27 Feb, we had a LH flat tire on the RV just after it taxied to the hangar. Inspection of the tire and tube showed that a single cord from the inside of the tire came loose and wore into the inner tube causing the leak. A new tire and tube were installed. While replacing the tire, we also re-greased the bearings and installed new brake pads.

  • No Maintenance Actions this month

N2242N Piper Arrow IV

  • Soft LH Brake Issue - We rebuilt the LH Master Brake Cylinder and parking brake cylinders and bled the brake system. Operational checks showed the brakes were working normally and the aircraft was returned to service on 4 Feb.
  • Oil Change - On February 24th, we changed the oil and filter and added 7 quarts of oil and Camguard.
