From The President - By Mike Piccirilli
Dear Members,
The 172 goes to get painted this weekend!! I talked to the paint shop on Saturday and they want us to bring the plane on Saturday, Feb 19. I'm going to need help to either fly the plane to St. Charles Municipal or pick me up. Please give me a call if you can help! Actually anyone interested in seeing the paint shop and some of their work is invited along.
The club had its annual meeting on Jan. 27 and the following ls a recap:
- I passed out 3 handouts: Yearly Utilization, an analysis of share value, and the appllcatlon to be used by potential members (I'll include a copy for John and Leonard).
- With the flooding, bad weather, and maintenance done to the plane over the past year, the number of hours flown by the club ln 1993 was the lowest I know of. As a result, many members are not current (to be current you need to have had 3 take-offs and landings, to a full-stop, ln the past 90 days), specifically Ganahl, McMullln, Newmark, Russell, and Zlmmerman. You must do the 3 T.O.s & Ldgs before you carry passengers to be legal and lnsured! In addltlon, Leonard Newmark was reminded hls medical was expired at the end of Jan and his BFR expires the end of March.
- The membership agreed to pay Charlie $4,353.85 for his legal services and expenses which left $7,748.33 for the club's treasury.
- The membership agreed to have the plane painted at Aero Tech, at St. Charles Municipal airport. It was also agreed to let the exact paint scheme and color be up to the painter as long as the main colors were a dark green on overall white. Approximate cost for the exterior and interior refurbishing is around $6,000. Detailed work break-down is included.
- The acquisition of a GPS receiver was put off to a future date. Indecision on type (panel mount or portable), features, and budget balance were problems identified.
- The membership agreed that after the aircraft is painted, the membership shares would be worth $4,500. I will increase the hull insurance to $31,500.
- The monthly costs were discussed (details on utilization handout). I pointed out that the monthly fixed costs were $44 member/month versus the $35 monthly dues. The membership voted to leave dues at $35 for now and look at this again in the future.
- I asked that the applicatlon form be used for any prospective new members and also pointed out that new members must be told the current share value.
- All current club officers were re-elected.
- C.J. Vogt offered to keep his intercom and headsets in the plane. The membership accepted his offer.
I had the opportunity to talk with Ken Nebrlg, Asst. Airport Manager. He said that Million Air, our FBO, has agreed to pull the aircraft out of the shade hanger and push them back in and tie the aircraft down. Thls is a great service that some of our members might want to use. Ken suggested we give them at least an hour notice to pull the plane out and to supervise/help pushlng the plane in and tieing it down. I would hope no one would leave the airplane before it was properly secured!
Ken also mentioned he was going to get us some info on the kind of storage box we could keep next to the plane. This would be great to keep headsets, tiedowns, oil, etc. in rather than lugging lt around in the plane everywhere we go!
Happy Landings,
Mike Piccirilli
