Dear Members,

With the very cold weather and fog conditions over the past month and the air box repair, we did not get much opportunity for flying this month. Hopefully the fog conditions will clear and we can start flying again shortly.

The Arrow IV purchase is proceeding smoothly. The pre-purchase inspection noted some relatively minor discrepancies and the Seller agreed to correct these issues during the annual. The annual inspection/repair is completed and the Seller wants to fly the plane first to make sure everything is OK before we travel to Olathe for our checkout flight. The trip to pickup the Arrow will probably occur the week of 25 January.

Treasurer's Report - by Mike McBride

Fuel prices were stable this past month, and the hourly rate remained at $63. Flight time was very low at only 0.58 hours. The treasury went up due to the transfer of funds from escrow to cover PP Tax (which is showing up in the member credits); this will correct itself over the coming months as the credit is reduced. I will be revising the monthly billing statement over the coming month to incorporate the second plane, additional members, and two classes of membership.

2009 Financial Summary - I've attached the treasurer's annual report for 2009, reflecting club activity between 16 Dec 2008 and 15 Dec 2009. A few comments:

    Flight charges in 2009 were $6,562.59, vs. $8,520.80 in 2008 (reduction of 23%)
  • Dues and assessments in 2009 were $10,000, vs. $11,600 in 2008 (reduction of 14%)
  • Total spending for 2009 was $14,400.80 vs. $18,318.86 in 2008 (reduction of 21%)
  • Largest spending item in 2009 was Parts, at $4,765
  • Hourly flight rates ranged between $57 and $66 per hour
    • Change in tachometer operation contributed to this variation
  • Fuel prices ranged between $3.74 and $4.60 per gallon
  • Escrow balances (aggregate) ended the year at just under $9,000
  • Checking account at year end was just under $10,000.

Maintenance - The air box attachment to the carburetor was strengthened with the addition of a forward bracket manufactured by Dynamic Propeller under STC.

Oil Analysis - We received the oil analysis results from the annual oil change on 24 Dec 2009 shown as sample 29 below. All the values are well within normal ranges. The affect of using Avblend is shown starting with sample 11 below.
