From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

It's that time of year to think about getting a better deal on our insurance. I've written a few companies for rates but I need to update our records to get quotes. Please confirm or change the data on the insurance worksheet enclosed and answer the questions shown. This is important as our insurance will only be valid if we answer these truthfully. Please sign the worksheet. Charlie suggested we increase the liability minimums and I will price the difference.

Also encloced this month you'll find an Analysis of Utilization and a Fixed Cost Analysis of the 172 over the past 5 Years. We have averaged less than 75 hrs for each of the last 3 vears. Even though the number of members was increaced from 6 to 7, the average hours a member flys per year is half of what it was in 1987. Fixed costs have been constant except for the Personal Property Tax increases and the fluctuations in insurance. The $35 per month per member is covering those expenses.

After studying these figures over the holidays, it is apparent that the non-scheduled maintenance costs have been a problem solely because the flight hours per year are down. I suggest we increase membership to 8 after Bill's share is sold. To help Bill sell his share, I have posted ads at McDonnell Douglas and have placed an ad in the lobby at Spirit. I have also enclosed an application form I think would be appropriate for a perspective member to fill out.

Bill has found a perspective new member to who I have sent an application form. She does not yet have a Private license but is close to getting it. There are no stipulations in either the insurance or club by-laws to adding a student pilot. It will be up to a majority of the members to decide. I will send you a copy of her application (and any others) as soon as I get them.

The only maintenance items left are the replacement of the turn coordinator and auto-pilot repair. If no one objects I will hold off on these until we get into Spring. Hopefully, Charlie will have some good news on the lawsuit by next months letter.

Thanks to B.J. for fabricating new cowl plugs! The old ones had bit the dust.

Happy Landings,

Mike Piccirilli
