From The President - By Steve

Dear Members:

I would like to welcome a new member to the club. Brian Williams has purchased Randy Tielking’s share and is looking forward to getting checked out in the RV. He is currently training with FedEx but we should see him around the hangar soon.

All three planes are up and ready to go for some good early summer flying weather. It is the one year anniversary for the RV and it has logged well over 100 hours (hobbs time) with no major issues. It is a fun plane to fly and the boarding steps John and Larry added last month make getting in and out much easier.

I flew the Cessna last week and took full advantage of the panel upgrades. The conditions were worse than forecast with rain, low viz, low ceilings and a thunderstorm that parked over Spirit. That resulted in a diversion to Washington where I tied it down for a couple of hours. The thunderstorm finally left and I made it back to Spirit. The GTN750 with weather display, the autopilot, and the 2 G5s all came together to make that flight a lot safer than it would have otherwise been.

Here's hoping for some dry weather so the folks at Jeff City, Creve Coeur, Hermann, and County can get things back to normal.

Fellow Members,

Billing Statement

BALANCE SHEET

Notable Items:

  • Overall Cash – Good at $27,000.
  • Cessna Maintenance – Still negative from the new brakes, we expect it to correct soon. We don’t expect to have to adjust rate per hour to correct this.
  • Major Work – Mostly related to the RV. No monies were spent in the current month, but I did some work to ensure accuracy to ensure we weren’t carrying anything related to the Cessna upgrade.

RATE PER HOUR and DUES

Don’t expect any changes until the September 15 billing statement.

   Maintenance - by John

N202CR RV-7A

  • No maintenance actions this month

N20843 Cessna 172M

  • Battery - The Battery is showing signs that it is near the end of its life and a new battery was ordered on 6/30. If it just clicks when you try to start the engine before the new battery is installed, just use the Battery side Master Switch for starting and then once it starts, turn on the Alternator side of the Master Switch.

N2242N Piper Arrow IV

  • IFR Transponder and Altimeter Check - Larry and I did the IFR Transponder and Altimeter check on the Arrow on 6/19/19. The next check is due in June 2021
  • GTN-750 COM - While flying the Arrow back from Sparta on 6/29, we could not change the COM frequency. We could enter in the new frequency and see it for a second in the COM frequency window but then it would revert back to the previous frequency. We saw a message pop up that said "COM needs servicing". We pulled and reset the COM 1 circuit breaker and we were able to enter the frequencies normally for the remainder of the trip. If you have this problem on your flight, pull the COM 1 Breaker and reset it and this should solve it. If you have to do this, please let me know as we may have to reload the software or send the unit in for servicing.
