From The President - By Todd Michal

Dear Members,

It is great to see everybody up flying again after the avionics upgrade. Mike Russell renewed the insurance with Avemco for another year and although the premium increased, it was not as much as we anticipated.

Thanks to John for taking care of the FAA paperwork to get the GPS certified for IFR operation! The Form 337 and Flight Manual Supplemental were signed by the FAA on 14 June and by John on 18 June. There is a new "Pilot Manuals" button to the left that has links to all the Garmin manuals for the new avionics. This page also has a link to the FAA approved Flight Manual Supplement. Before heading off on a cross country, take some time to familiarize yourselves with the operation of the new equipment

Treasurer's Report - by Marlin Sipe

Last month we assessed enough to bring the Adjusted Treasury back to zero this month, including an estimate of the remaining expenses and avionics sales. It did not include the fuel expenses and insurance increase, which we knew would put it in the red. We show an Adjusted Treasury balance of $813 in the red this month, which is close to the insurance increase and fuel. We will let the fuel be paid by future flight time payments, but we are assessing the difference in insurance this month, which is $40 per member. Unless we have any unusual expenses come up, this should be the last of the assessments, and we can build up a balance from here.

We are doing pretty good on selling the old avionics. We previously received $1000 for the 2 comm radios, and $100 for the glide slope receiver and VOR receiver. John is gradually putting the rest on eBay, and this month we received $395 for the transponder and intercom. One of the Narco Com-11A radios just sold for $132 on eBay, plus we still have another Com-11A, marker beacon, and ADF to sell.

Looking at monthly expenses (insurance, personal property tax, GPS database, shadeport), it comes to $61 or $62 per member, which is being rounded up to $65 as monthly dues. We still have the $10 extra to help fund improvements, which we can decide as a group if we want to reduce or eliminate. I think the paint is the only significant thing remaining.

   Maintenance - by John

GPS IFR Certification - As of 18 June, the GPS is certified for IFR flight. As part of the certification, a supplemental flight manual is required to be in the aircraft. There is a new binder in the aircraft with that has the flight time log, Maintenance Log, VOT log, Pilot Manuals for all the new avionics, and the GPS Flight Manual Supplement. Please read and be familiar with the Flight Manual Supplemental before flying on IFR flights.

   Club Logo - by John

I have been trying to come up with a logo for the St Louis Flying Club for some time, but have never been happy with the designs. The design to the left is simple and I think it would look great embroidered on shirts, hats etc. If anyone has any suggestions to improve this logo or would like some other design, please let me know your thoughts.

Aircraft Insurance

Mike Russell renewed the clubs insurance on June 14th. The new policy is effective June 18, 2006 and is good through June 17, 2007. With the increase in the aircraft valuation to $60,280, the insurance costs increased by $303 to $3,195 per year, or about $3.00 per member per month. The increase was less than we anticipated based on the discussions with Avemco earlier this year.
