From The President - By Todd Michal Dear Members, I would like to welcome our new member, Charlie Royce to the club. Charley broke his foot several weeks ago and will not have the final surgery for another four weeks so he will be doing some hangar flying for a while. If you are going flying and need some company, give Charley a call. Don't forget about the airspace changes around Lambert airport that will be effective on 13 April. They will be issuing new St Louis, Kansas City and St Louis Class B airspace charts in early April to cover these changes. Happy Landings! Treasurer's Report - by Marlin Sipe With the low flying time being paid from last month, and the fuel charges this month, the Adjusted Treasury decreased by $24 to $1780. This was still looking good with our plan to use $500 of it for the GPS and still pay the Annual, until the turn coordinator problem. We will be spending money on 3 things in the near future... GPS/avionics upgrade, turn coordinator repair, and Annual inspection. Since we don't know the final cost of some of these, or how much we will get for selling the existing avionics, we will charge a special assessment for the amount we come up short when we are all done. Each person should pay enough to bring their credit balance to $820, which will continue to show as a credit on your account for now. This was the amount estimated to cover the avionics and will help with the cash flow. John has paid for the avionics already, and he will be reimbursed with this money. When the final cost of everything is determined, we will charge each member an equal share of what is not covered by the Treasury, which will be mostly covered by your $820 credit. I say "mostly" because it's likely that with the turn coordinator we will come up short on money. The bottom line is that we will assess enough to bring the Adjusted Treasury up to zero after everything is done, which will probably be on the May bill after the Annual.
Maintenance - by John Turn Coordinator - The turn coordinator stopped working and will need to be replaced. It was last rebuilt and installed in August 1997. Prices for a new gyro that is compatible with our 200A Wing Leveler will run $836. Rebuilt units have been difficult to find some of the quotes are higher than the cost for a new one. We plan to install a new or rebuilt gyro during the avionics upgrade. Avionics Upgrade - The avionics have been ordered and should be received in a week or two. We have access to a hanger at St Charles County for the month of April and we plan to do the upgrade at that time.
