From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

The airplane came through the annual ln relatively good shape. The compressions are ln the high 70's which ls great! Unfortunately, we dld get socked again this year by not doing the annual ourselves. The bill from C&D wad for $994.42 (see attached). We only budgeted $400. The blg items, over the base $435 prlce were:

  • RepIacement battery $122.42
  • replace right brake linings $48.36
  • oil change $31.58
  • repair carburetor heat box inlet $79.75
  • comply with AD's on seat rail lnspection, alr filter bracket, and lgnltlon switch $120.75.

Alot of activity for only 53 hours being flown over the last year.

Because of the extra expense of the annual, I am including a special assessment of $100 on this month's bill. This is necessary to bring the treasury value up to where it needs to be to pay the upcoming insurance bill. I haven't received it yet. Hopefully it will be the same as last year.

The only feedback I received on my pitch for a cheap GPS unit was from Randy who actually showed me one he had already bought for himself. He let me play with it while he was drivlng me to St. Charles to pickup the airplane. By the way, THANKS Randy for picklng/dropplng me off so we could get the annual done ln a timely manner! Randy has a Garmln 40 unit which was made for hiking but it worked great. I believe Randy said he got it at WalMart for less than $200! Based on seeing it, and seeing the shape the treasury is in, I suggest each member buys a personal GPS if they want one. A personal unit would allow you to program it at home with your own set of waypolnts and we don't have to worry about it being stolen out of the plane.

Happy Landings,

Mike Piccirilli
