From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Hi Members,

Well, the good news is the plane is back on flying status after the annual. Thanks to John Heilmann for his work on reinstalling the muffler and the other members who helped out on the annual. The bad news was the cost of the annual. The final price was higher than expected, mainly caused by miscellaneous hardware associated with the muffler install. A special assessment of $50 is in the bill this month to pay for the difference.

John Ganahl brought up an issue with raising JetCorp on Unicom for refueling. I have experienced a problem in raising them on the 2 decimal frequency 122.95 but can always seem to raise them on 131.325. Has anyone else had this issue?

FYI, we now have 3 people who have responded to our website with applications to join.

Happy Landings!

The cost of the Annual was more than I was guessing based on prices for the muffler. There were some muffler parts not allowed for, plus other non-muffler items. I was guessing just over $1000, but it came to $1351.46. That leaves us about $389 in the red, when we should be starting to build for the coming year. As a result, we are having an additional $50 assessment this month to cover most of the shortage, so we will hopefully be back in the black next month. A copy of the final report and bill for the Annual can be found at: Final Annual Bill

I wrote a check to myself from the club to reimburse some of my credit, still leaving the minimum in the checking account to avoid service charges. The rest of the credit I will probably just leave there to cover my next few months.

We are checking around for fuel prices. After the Annual, John Heilmann topped it off at St. Charles for $1.99, saving a few bucks. JetCorp is currently at $2.50. A couple months ago MillionAire was quoting $2.55. John Ganahl bought fuel at MillionAire for $2.35 last month, but they quoted $2.45 when I called them a week ago. John also said he was having trouble reaching JetCorp on the radio, so he called MillionAire. I had similar problems, but only late at night. I will check with JetCorp and MillionAire and see where things settle, but for now we have been getting our fuel from JetCorp. I will also mention that sometimes nobody from JetCorp answers on the radio. With the wide differences in fuel prices, keep your eyes open when you go somewhere other than Spirit. If they have cheap fuel, consider topping it off.

Maintenance Corner - From Marlin Sipe & John Heilmann

The muffler was reinstalled and the annual signed off. New hardware was required to install the muffler as the old hardware was unusable.

The Oil Analysis results of a sample taken at the annual were received and "all values appear normal".

Intermittent Problems were reported with the number one radio on Wednesday, May 10 and on Saturday, May 13th, it went totally dead. On Monday, May 15th, Randy moved the number 2 radio to the number one position and reinstalled the old radio into the number 2 slot. The hand mic was tested and found to be OK. Both radios were tested using the hand mic and they both work OK. A flight around the pattern confirmed that both radios are working and both ground control and the tower had no problems with the volumn or clarity. The new radio that failed is still under warranty and will be sent back to the vendor for repair. It should be returned within 3 to 4 weeks and will be reinstalled back into the number one slot
