From The President - By Steve
Dear Members:
It was good to see everyone at our Spring meeting. TJ did a great job detailing the club finances,
explaining where we are, how we got there, and how the monthly dues and hourly rates work.
John Heilmann presented options for upgrades to the RV and a unanimous vote approved the
purchase of a Garmin GPS-175 WAAS GPS, GNC-255 NAV/COM, GTR-20 COM, and GWX autopilot. These upgrades will really enhance
the RV and turn it into an very capable IFR platform. We also saw information gathered by Damian
and John Heilmann regarding a 180hp conversion for the Cessna. Strictly food for thought as any
decision on that is probably 3 to 4 years down the line. There were no lottery requests for Oshkosh
so all the planes are open if anyone comes up with plans to fly up there. We finished with another
great BBQ provided courtesy of John Waddell and some social time where those present got to
meet our newest member Randy Tielking.
Thanks to Kip and Geoff for getting our internet connection up and running and a big thank you
to John Heilmann and Larry Wehrman as they finish some significant work on the RV! Safe Flying,
Steve

- Avionics – We didn’t spend much in the current month, but I missed the G5 last month. It was in “Major Improvements”, just not the cash piece.
- Major Work – Mostly related to the RV. This won’t come down and be embedded in the RV value until all the improvements are done in the fall..
RATE PER HOUR and DUES
Don’t expect any changes until the September 15 billing statement.
Maintenance - by John
N202CR RV-7A
- Condition Inspection - We plan to complete the Condition Inspection/Phase 1 upgrades on the RV by 30 May. In addition to the upgrades listed last month, the following upgrades/safety improvements were made this month. The RV-7 Familiarization document is being updated to reflect these changes.
- ADS-B In and Out - The GDL-82 ADS-B Out unit was installed and the GDL-39 ADS-B in unit and AERA-560 portable display from the Cessna was installed to give us weather and traffic on the AERA until the G3X is installed this fall. You can also connect your portable display to the RV-7 GDL-39 to get weather and traffic on your own device as well.
- Safety Improvement to Nose Gear - The nose wheel strut was strengthened and a skid plate added inside the nose wheel fairing to help prevent excessive strut deflections and potential nose gear failure. The modifications are from Antisplat Aero.
- Oil Separator and Crankcase Vacuum System - An oil separator and crankcase vacuum system were installed to help reduce oil usage. The modification is intended to minimize oil leaving the engine and help keep it off the belly. We are currently adding one quart every 6 hours and this mod should help improve this to only adding a quart every 10 hours
- Aircraft Entry Steps - The aircraft entry steps were added and they make it much easier to get in and out of the RV.
- Easy Out Bar - A bar was installed approx 1 foot aft of the rudder pedals about 2 inches off the floor to help get out of the airplane. Instead of you feet sliding of the carpet as you try to get out, you can now push against the bar which makes it much easier to get out.
N20843 Cessna 172M
- No maintenance actions this month
N2242N Piper Arrow IV
- Oil and Filter Change - The oil and filter were changed on May 20th. The Filter was clean and an out sample was sent in for analysis.
