From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

We certainly have had beautiful weather recently and I'm happy to see that just about everyone has been able to take advantage of it and get some flying in. Mike Russell has even had it on a flight to Tulsa this past week.

I haven't had any takers on the Secretary position. Please let me know if you change your mind. For now I'm just going to consider the job vacant.

Mike Russell has taken ownership of the bird problem. He has removed a bunch of straw from the left horizontal tail and has used a rag to stuff the hole between the left horizontal stabilizer and elevator. Just remove the rag before flying and stuff it back in when you tie it down. It has been keeping the birds out so far. I was out there today and used a small grasping tool to pull out even more straw. Mike suggested we really need to use some compressed air to blow the remaining straw out.

The oil is getting close to the 25 hour time limit we set for the next change. We wanted to change it at 25 hours because of a discrepancy we saw in the previous oil sample. We want to see if there is a real problem or just an anamoly with the sample itself. Chuck will let us know when we will do the change so that we can all have an opportunity to help!

Mike Russell has been doing some checking on GPS units and found the II Morrow Apollo 920 handheld to be a nice unit and I pointed out that AOPA magazine rated it #1 in their GPS article in the April 94 issue. The going prlce in Trade-A-Plane is $1250. Before we can get very serious about buying one, we will have to look at the treasury, monthly dues, and hourly costs. With the increase in insurance, personal property taxes, and 20 cent increase in fuel, the treasury is shrinking.

One last thank you to Mike Russell for washing the plane. It's looking real good!

Happy Landings,

Mike Piccirilli
