From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

I had gotten another application this past month from Doug Allen. His application showed he has an ATP, 5600 Total Time and 500 hours in C-172s. I believe this is the same Doug Allen that received Instructor of the Year, a few years back. I replied to him asking formore details on his interest level, but he has yet to respond.

Things are pretty quite other than that.

Happy Landings and don't eat too much Turkey!

Treasurer's Report - by Marlin Sipe

With the payments for the 9.4 hours of flying last month, and no extra expenses this month, the Adjust Treasury took a nice jump from $326 to $473 this month. This is still a bit behind what we would like to have saved so far, but payments for the 9.5 hours flown this past month should help boost our balance again next month, if there are no added expenses.

As announced last month, the hourly rate has been adjusted up $1 to $51 because of increased fuel prices of $3.45/gallon. It looks like fuel may have just gone up to $3.55/gallon. If so, that will mean another increase in the hourly rate to $52 next month.

   Maintenance - by John Heilmann

  1. Engine Breakin Oil - We currently have Aeroshell Mineral Oil 80 in the engine to help break in the new number 2 cylinder. Lycoming recommends a break-in period of 50 hours on straight mineral oil so we have about 30 hours to go before changing the oil. I added a quart of mineral oil on 20 November. If the oil is low and you need to add additional oil, please use the Aeroshell Mineral Oil 80 (in black plastic quarts) that is in the plastic box next to the plane.

Engine Heater and Cold Weather Operations

The following engine heater was advertised on Avweb. It is an interesting design that heats the entire engine compartment and not just the oil pan. For more information on it, see the following website: http://aerothermheaters.com

With winter approaching, here is a good article on Cold Weather Operations from AOPA and their recommendation to preheat the engine when the temperature drops below 25 deg. F.
