From The President - By Steve
Dear Members,
I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving! I was fortunate enough to have
both daughters with spouses and kids for the holiday. The house got
pretty quiet after they left.
As we approach year end Pic completed our semiannual aircraft valuations
and it appears the market has softened a little as the Cessna fell $5500, the Arrow
$3500, and the RV went up about $1000. This had a small effect on your share
value as seen in the Treasurer's Report. Brad has been busy working on our
insurance renewal and hopefully by the time this newsletter comes out all have responded
to his request for pilot information.
Congrats also to Brad for completing his Arrow checkout
with Mike Mahoney on a flight to Gaston"s. If you haven't flown into Gaston's it should be
on your bucket list.
Interest in the club remains high and I recently gave a hangar tour to a couple of applicants.
They were all interested in the 180hp upgrade on the Cessna.
As I write this John and Larry are working on replacing the main seal on the Arrow. It was a
good catch by Larry to find the leak after one of his flights.
Beth has made a number of trips down to Carbondale, IL Southern Illinois Airport (KMDH), 84.7 nm SW of Spirit, to eat at the St Nicholas Brewing Company. The restaurant is right on the airport and is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday - Friday 11 AM to 8:30 and Brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM. They have a nice outdoor patio just outside the restaurant for a great view of the airport. If you are looking for a new airport restaurant, this is a great place to checkout.

BILLING STATEMENT
Comments:
- Thanks everyone for their timely payments.
- We put up some nice hours for November! Keep on flying!
- Full service fuel continues to rise, so it continues to make sense to self fuel.
- Always be sure to double check your numbers and don't hesitate to let me know if there are any questions
BALANCE SHEET
- We made our down payment on the new Cessna engine! This caused a decrease in the Cessna engine fund of $10,000 and an increase in work in process. As a friendly reminder, the club approved a $1,500 assessment that will become payable late spring of 2023, depending on engine delivery.
- 2022 insurance is almost exhausted; "Treasury-Insurance" will be $0 on the 12/15 statement with our new payment made in early January. Please be sure to get Brad your data so we can get the most advantageous rate possible.
- Overall cash decreased slightly due to the engine payment but there is still plenty of cash to operate well into the future.
- Our semi-annual aircraft valuation was completed by Pic with our first decrease in the past couple of cycles. As a reminder, we insure our aircraft at balance sheet valuation plus 10%.
Maintenance - by John
N202CR RV-7A
- Mandatory Service Bulletin No. 22112 Rev A - Complied with Garmin Service Bulletin No 22112 Rev A on November 29 by installing new G3X Touch Software version 9.12. There were a number of improvements made as listed below.
- Improved traffic audio alerts - Relative direction, altitude, and distance are annunciated when traffic alert is issued
- Optional audio alert for high-airspeed condition - This triggers an aural alert when Vne threshold is crossed, in an effort to raise situational awareness when operating at the high end of the airspeed range.
- Add optional audio alert when reaching safe altitude after takeoff - At a pre-configured altitude, an aural alert is played. Ideally, above this altitude you can execute a return to the field if necessary. Configure as necessary per airframe performance.
- Add optional CAS reminder to check baro-setting when on the ground - A CAS message is displayed when the aircraft is on the ground and barometric altitude is significantly offset from field elevation.
- Add optional audio alert when approaching VNAV profile - This triggers an alert prior to VNAV capture, similar to the GTN "vertical track" audible alert.
- Improve Smart Glide operation and glide range ring - To account for full or partial power situations, the glide ring will now dynamically account for glide performance beyond the book values. If the aircraft is under partial power, the glide range will extend dynamically to reflect the current sink rate per real-time performance numbers.
- Add ability to disable ESP by holding AP DISC button for 5 seconds
- Improve map display of TFR, NOTAM, and obstacle data
N20843 Cessna 172M
- No maintenance Actions this month
N2242N Piper Arrow IV
- Crankshaft Seal and Oil Change - During post flight inspection on 22 November, Larry noticed an oil spray pattern on the cowl that indicates a leaking crankshaft seal. A new oil seal was ordered and will be installed on 28 October. While the plane was down, we also replaced the rocker cover gasket on cylinder No. 3, changed the oil and filter, and cleaned, gapped and rotated the spark plugs.
