From The President - By Steve

Dear Members,

It was nice to see the large turnout we had for our Fall meeting and thanks again to Beth Campbell and John Waddell for the lunch. Congratulations to Jeffrey Evitts for passing his IFR checkride!

Since the meeting we are moving forward with the wing from the Arrow on its way to Texas for repair, and the RV engine delivered to Signature in Ohio for overhaul. We have received a partial payment from the insurance company that is in our checking account. The engine from the Arrow is in the queue for an overhaul at Poplar Grove. Cory and Pic are working on options for the RV interior. TJ has done a lot of work on the financial side of things as you will see in his section.

As noted at the meeting Mike Landgraf is selling his share and now Brad Hansen is planning a move to Montana so his share is also on the table. Waiting to hear from 2 applicants and will get the shares transferred as soon as possible.

Brad will continue his VP duties until he sells his share and I am asking all of you to respond promptly to his request for updated pilot info for our insurance. We don't need any hiccups with the renewal.

Treasurer's Report - by T.J

BILLING STATEMENT

Comments:

  • Happy New Year!
  • We welcome two new members this month, David Ammons and David Paland. However, Mike Landgraf and Brad Hansen will remain on the list until next month.
  • As stated last month, we will only have the Cessna flying for several months but will continue to update the financials for each aircraft every month.
  • Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

BALANCE SHEET

  • We spent funds for the Arrow and RV and these amounts are reflected in cash, with an increase in Work in Process. Consistent with all of our other improvement projects, we will record in WIP until we place the plane(s) back into service and will then record at their new market value with the improvements.
  • We have exhausted our 2023 insurance premium as of December. When we make payment for the 2024 premiums, they will be recorded as a negative treasury item with the offset in prepaids. This will amortize over the year.
  • Please let me know if you have any questions.

DUES

  • We haven't raised dues since June of 2022 (when we raised from $160 to $170).
  • However, we need to raise dues effective January 2024, primarily to cover rising insurance and hangar costs.
  • Dues will be $185 starting next month and will be comprised of:

   Maintenance - by John

N202CR RV-7A

  • Engine - The RV Lycoming O-360 A1A engine was removed and delivered to Signature Engines in Cincinnati on 1 December. Charlie Royce and Mike Mahoney recommended Signature engines as they had a good experience with the overhaul of the Spirit Flyers Saratoga engine. Signature quoted a turn time of 10-12 weeks and we are hoping to have the RV back in service in the March 2024 time frame.

N20843 Cessna 172M

  • Oil Change - The oil and filter were changed on 11/7/23 with the engine reaching 47 hours since new. The engine break-in period is now complete and we are now using Phillips 20W50 Victory Oil. Lycoming is recommending Victory oil with the anti-wear additives so that we don't need to add Camguard any longer.

N2242N Piper Arrow IV

  • RH Wing - On November 22nd, the RH wing was removed from the fuselage and prepared for shipment to Flying T for repair. On November 27th, SCRN did an Eddy Current inspection of the RH Wing attach holes. All of the attach holes in the wing and fuselage passed the inspection with no cracks found. On November 29, Flying T picked up the RH Wing and lower cowl and took them to their facility for repair and painting. Thanks to Corey and his son, Damian and Mike Mahoney, PIC, and Curtis Kelley for helping with the wing removal.

  • Engine - The engine was removed and prepared for shipment to Poplar Groves Airmotive for the prop strike inspection/overhaul. We paid a $10,000 deposit to get our spot in line and will take the engine up to Poplar Groves in the next week or two. Thanks to Damian for his help with the engine removal.
