From The President - By Steve
Dear Members,
Congratulations to Kirk McDonald for completing his checkout in all three airplanes.
We are fortunate to have club members with good availability to do the checkouts.
Self-serve fuel is still unavailable at Spirit but as I write this avgas under $5/g can be
had at Fulton, Fredricktown, Cuba, and Farmington. If you want to go a little further
Dexter and Poplar Bluff are even cheaper, and Dexter has a restaurant on the field.
Brian Williams is working on our insurance renewal so if you haven't done it already please
get the requested information back to him.
Dave Paland had a nice overnight flight to Gastons with his daughter and sent a few photos from the trip. They had a nice early morning fog while fishing for trout on the river.
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving!

- Battery - On Sunday, 16 Nov, Doug Miller called and said the Cessna would not start for his return flight from Columbia and sent a video of what the attempted start sounded like. It sounded like a starter issue to me and we decided to go to Columbia the next day and replace the starter with a spare starter we keep. Doug had an appointment that night and Mike Mahoney volunteered to fly him back to Spirit in the Arrow. The weather was terrible on Monday so Larry, Mike Mahoney and I drove to Columbia on Tuesday to fix the starter. When we got to the airplane, Larry tried to start it and it repeated the same issue that Doug had. Larry looked at the battery voltage and it was down to 9 volts. While eating lunch, we charged the battery and when we got back, the Cessna started right up. The battery was only 1.7 years old and they should last longer than that. The battery seemed to work fine until Jason reported that the battery seemed weak during the start for his return flight from Sikeston on 29 November. We decided to order a new battery and replaced it on December 5th. We are looking to see if we can claim the early failure against the Battery Warranty and get some reimbursement.
- Oil Change - On December 3rd, we changed the oil and filter with 7 qts of Phillips X/C 20W50 oil, 11 oz of Camguard, and AA48110-2 filter. The filter looked good with no metal particles and the oil sample was sent in for analysis. We also installed the oil cooler winterization plate.

- Oil Change - On November 12th at 44.0 hours SMOH, we changed the oil and filter with 7 qts of Phillips X/C 20W50 oil, 11 oz of Camguard, and AA48110-2 filter. The filter looked good with no metal particles and the oil sample was sent in for analysis. We are now using Phillips X/C 20W50 oil on all our aircraft engines.
- Winterization Plate - On December 3rd, we installed the oil cooler winterization Plate.
