From The President - By Mike Piccirilli Dear Members, Thanks to C.J. and Emerson for getting the 172 back to Spirit. It's nice to be out of the mud and have runways with clear approaches. By the time you get this letter, the short runway at Spirit should be reopened (lt was closed for resurfacing). The airport also reports that airport road should be completly resurfaced by 1 January. Chuck Zimmerman had arranged for Blll Rlchards to do the annual again this year. In fact it has been completed! The good news was the bill was $279.10. The bad news was that somethings still need to be fixed for the plane to be legal after 30 November. The ELT battery needs to be replaced (ordered - $30), the badly cracked dorsal fairing needs to be replaced (ordered - $26), and the front windshield needs to be replaced (ordered - $279). I went ahead and ordered a new rear windshield also for $122. I also requested Ozark Radio to do the biennial transponder and altimeter checks (about $200). Hopefully all this work can be done before the end of November. I got the results of the oil analysis and was surprised to see high numbers for aluminum and chrome. I have enclosed the analysis form. This could indicate that the pistons and cylinders are wearing prematurely due to corrosion from lack of use. We will change the oil after the next 25 hours to keep an eye on lt. Planes do seem to do better if flown more than 50 hours a year (our pace last year)! The annual inspection dld show all the cylinder compressions to be in the high 70s (very good)! I received the personal propoerty tax bill and was happy to see the amount was only increased by $25 to $556.16. Last year it went up by $50. Nothing to report on the Appeal. Maybe we will here good news by the New Year's. I'm not sure where we would get it painted anyway. All the local shops went underwater! Happy Landings, Mike Piccirilli
