From The President - By Pic

Dear Members,

Thanks to Dom and John (with help from hangar neighbor Jerry Rettinger) for completing the Arrow hangar lighting installation and to Charlie Royce for organizing and labeling the aircraft cleaning supplies. The supplies are temporarily organized in one of the large white cabinets in the back of the Arrow Hangar. Charlie is planning to install heated metal cabinets to keep the cleaning solutions from freezing in the winter.

Also, thanks to Paul Carpenter for offering to help out with the planning and construction for the "future" office area in the Skyhawk hangar. We'll talk more about the hangar options at the upcoming Nov 3rd club meeting (10 AM at he hangars). If you haven't RSVP'ed yet, please let me know if you will be attending so we know how many will be showing up. Remember, we will be having a hot dog social immediately after the meeting!

A couple of items regarding the hangars. On a night flight, Phil had the 172 hangar door "hang" in the up position. In troubleshooting it, Phil could hear the motor trying to spin but the door wouldn't go up or down. It was jammed. I called the airport admin office and since it was closed they referenced the airport police number. I called the police number and found the maintenance guy was hanging with them (or vice versa). Anyway they both came down, put up a ladder and the maintenance guy was able to manually spin the flywheel (that got it unstuck). The maintenance guy also noted the cables had way too much slack so came back the next day and rerigged it.

I am going to add the admin (636) 532-2222 and Spirit Police (314) 568-1996 to the Handbook (it's in need of an update anyhow). I should have it updated by the meeting.

Treasurer's Report - by Mike McBride

Fuel prices at TACAir rose by a nickel this past month; that triggered a $1 increase in the flight rates for each aircraft. The flight hours were low for the month in both aircraft. Club expenses this past month included some charges for build-out of the new hangars, as well as renewal of the XM Weather for the Arrow.

Treasury, adjusted treasury, escrow, and checking account balances all remain strong.

   Maintenance - by John

N20843

The following Cessna maintenance actions were taken this month:

  • The oil cooler winterization plate was installed on 27 October
  • The CDI was removed to help troubleshoot the inoperative CDI on the Arrow. The CDI will be reinstalled this week.

N2242N

  • Oil Change - I have not received the metal particle analysis yet from the Lab. I will contact them this week to make sure they received the sample and when to expect the results.
  • IFR Tests - The Altimeter & Altitude Reporter Test per FAR 91.411 that is required every two years was completed by Jim Mueller last week.
  • Spark Plug Replacement - The spark plugs were replaced with new spark plugs on 21 October. The previous plugs had about 500 hours on them which is their normal life.
  • CDI - The CDI problem (OBS readings not being sent to the GNS-430) was traced to a bad CDI indicator. Thanks Charlie for helping with the troubleshooting effort and to Bob Z. for sending the unit back to Garmin for repair. THe Garmin repair bill is projected to be $600 which is their standard CDI repair cost.
  • Oil Cooler WInterization Plate - The oil cooler winterization plate was installed in the arrow on 27 October
