From The President - By Steve

Dear Members,

It was nice to see everyone at our Fall meeting and a big thank you to Brad for running the meeting due to my late arrival. Before starting we had another great lunch courtesy of John Waddell. The members made a big decision to move forward with the Air Plains 180hp upgrade for the Cessna. I think John's powerpoint presentation made the decision easier for a lot of us. The big factors seemed to be increased performance, minimal down time, and the assessment increasing share value. Two other votes saw the current slate of officers reelected for another term and an approval for speed mods on the Arrow. Thanks to all the officers and volunteers for their service and I encourage all the members who haven't served to consider one of these positions.

As a club we have never shied away from spending money on the important things. All the upgrades we made over the years not only gave us great planes to fly but also made a share in the club desirable to a lot of people. Selling your share when the time comes is a lot easier when you have people wanting to get in.

Congrats to Damian as he is now flying twins with his dad at Wings of Hope and just became an Army Blackhawk crew chief in October.

Soon you will see a request from Brad for updates on flight hours required by our insurance broker. Please get these in quickly and while you are at it look at the member status page and give Brad any changes.

I flew the RV down to Gastons and had a great lunch at the restaurant. The leaves are dropping and the Fall colors are starting to fade but it is still a great time to fly.

BILLING STATEMENT

Comments:

  • Members, please note that the amounts in the table below are different from those presented at the meeting. If you purchased fuel, likely amounts you owe to the club have decreased.
  • October was another great month of flying!
  • Fuel remained materially the same as September. Thus, the excitement about fuel prices decreasing and the maintenance funds increasing was premature. Fuel prices are still high and so the $10 per hour increase that we decided in the spring has yet to truly impact the rate per hour.
  • Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

BALANCE SHEET

  • We now have well in excess of $50,000 in cash, which is sufficient to support standard operations well into the future.
  • Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

   Maintenance - by John

N202CR RV-7A

  • No Maintenance Issues this month

N20843 Cessna 172M

  • Throttle Shaft - The Carburetor throttle shaft and bushings were replaced on 11 October. The throttle shaft and bushings were worn which allowed air into the intake manifold which causes a leaner mixture and the RPM to waiver. With the new throttle shaft and bushings installed, flight reports show the RPM does not waiver as much as in the past.

  • Turn Coordinator - The Turn Coordinator was making a lot of noise during gyro spool up and operation indicating bearing issues and impending failure. We replaced the turn coordinator with an overhauled turn coordinator.

N2242N Piper Arrow IV

  • Electric Fuel Pump - Damian reported that the Arrow electric Fuel pump failed to work prior to his flight on 24 October. Troubleshooting showed that there was power to the pump but the pump would not run. We ordered an overhauled Weldon 8120-G pump and installed it on 28 October.
