St. Louis Flying Club Newsletter - 21 September 2007

From The President - By Todd Michal

Dear Members,

It's great to have the airplane back in St Louis again. From the pictures Shelby sent, it looks like a new aircraft! A special thanks to Mark for making the arrangements and flying down to pick up the aircraft. Mark covered the cost of the paint effort and will be reimbursed by the club.

I just checked the schedule and nobody has the plane scheduled! I thought everyone would be anxious to get up and get current again.

Happy Takeoffs!

Todd

Treasurer's Report - by Mike McBride

We have not had much financial activity in the club over the past month, with no member credits submitted and no flying time logged. The adjusted treasury remains just under $5,600, which still fits within our funding plans for the repainting as described in last month's newsletter. The fuel price at JetCorp / JetDirect has risen to $4.68 per gallon, which has increased our hourly flight rate to $61.00.

   Maintenance - by John

  • WAAS Upgrade - I hope to get the WAAS installation completed by early next week. With my daughters wedding next saturday, my spare time is in high demand by my wife to complete projects at home as well. We have to remove the headliner and replace the current GPS with a new WAAS GPS antenna and add the additional coax to meet the required length. We should be able to complete this effort in less than a day.
  • Maintenance Squawks - Mark reported a few maintenance issues after his return flight to St Louis. He said one of the strobe lights is not working and the door lock needs work. Will check these out.
  • Paint - The exterior painting is completed! While taking longer than expected, the results look worth the wait. The cost came in as follows:
    • Strip and repaint (labor & materials) ...............$6500.00
    • Extra Parts:
      • 2 new door handles and return springs @ $20.00 ea. ....$40.00
      • 1 set of flap rollers ............................... $244.45
    • Extra Labor:
      • installed new chrome door handles and springs ........$130.00
    • Sub Total ...........................................$6914.45
    • sales tax ............................................$674.16
    • Total................................................$7588.61
Shelby said he covered the cost of the new stainless structural screws in the ailerons, the new nuts & bolts in the flight controls, and the new stainless cowl fasteners in the flat rate fee even though this is normally extra. He also only charged actual invoice cost for the flap rollers, door handles and return springs. He did not charge for the additional stripping effort or chemical costs. I forgot about sales tax when working the estimate. I typically order everything by mail order and don't usually think about sales tax.
