St. Louis Flying Club Newsletter - 23 September 2008

From The President - By Todd Michal

Dear Members,

I was surprised to see that the plane has not flown yet in September even with the good weather we have had. I guess everyone is busy with work or other activities around the house. Hopefully we can get some flying in over the next couple of months before the cold weather sets in.

We will hold the flying club meeting on October 2nd at 7:00 PM. It looks like everyone can make this time except Mark (sorry Mark, we will try to get your inputs before the meeting). Look for a follow up email with the meeting location. I plan to try and schedule the conference room at Jet Direct.

At this meeting we will discuss the purchase of new equipment for the plane and explore the option of adding a second plane to the club. John has been collecting inputs from members on desired equipment purchases. If you have any items you would like to get on the list for consideration, please send them to John.

Happy Takeoffs!

Todd

Treasurer's Report - by Mike McBride

Flying hours during the past month were light, with only 7.4 hours logged. Fuel prices held relatively steady, and our hourly rate is now $70. With the nice fall weather, hopefully we'll see stronger usage of the plane in the coming few months.

The adjusted treasury has improved this month to only a slightly negative balance, at about -$160; the treasury stands at around $360, in line with expectations for the next annual. We had several small expenses associated with repairs to the plane that hit this month, details are shown in the statement..

Fly safely!

Mike

   Maintenance - by John

Stall Warning Horn - Mike W. reported that the stall warning horn was not as loud as normal. A check of the system found that there was a crack in the plastic scoop that is mounted on the inside of the wing. The crack let air into the system which weakened the vacuum enough that the horn did not blow. The scoop (Cessna Part No. 0413028-10) was replaced with a new scoop and the system now works correctly.

Fuel Filler Caps - The wing fuel filler caps were replaced with new filler caps (P/N C156003-0101). The old caps were starting to deteriorate and not sealing as well as they should. The new caps are much tighter and will take a little more effort to rotate than the old caps but they should seal much better.

Landing Light - The intermittent problem with the landing light was traced to the disconnect under the cowl. The female plug socket diameter was slightly larger than the male plug pin diameter and it would sometimes make contact and other times not. New connectors were installed and the light now works correctly.
