From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

The big news for this month is that the right magneto crapped out. Forty hours after the left one did. The magneto was replaced, just like the last one, by Executive Beechcraft. Cost was $526. You'll notice the big dent it makes in our treasury value. It is also being turned in for a warrenty claim even though it is 11 months past warrenty.

Speaking of warrenties I have been told we will receive compensation for the left magneto. I'm still not sure how much. I am told to expect a check in 4 to 6 weeks.

Com #2 has been intermittent for me at best, totally useless at worst. Emerson confirmed that when he and John Ganahl flew this past weekend it was dead. This adds another item on the maintenance list, waiting for money to repair. The list as I see it, in no particular order:

  • Com #2 - Intermittent $200
  • Nav/VOR #1 - Dead $200
  • Turn Coordinator (Elec Gyro) - Dead $350
  • Autopilot - Dead $300
  • Total Est. $1050

The estimates are pure guesses. I'm willing to wait to have these repaired until we get reimbursed for the magnetos and/or the treasury gets into the black. Since these are not flight critical, I'm not willing to suggest a special assessment to have them repaired. But I only have one vote. In my conversation with Emerson, he was for having a special assessment to get just Com #2 repaired. What do you think we should do?

Speaking of expenses, the insurance payment is due next month along with the annual inspection. We should be OK to pay the insurance and get the annual done as long as there are no surprises. The airplane has been scheduled to get the annual done at C&D Aviation at Smartt Field (they would let us work on the plane, normal price is $420 but substantially less if we do the grunt work) on Saturday/Sunday Oct. 26 & 27.

Enclosed you'll find an explanation of Clearance Delivery at Spirit and a list of medical examiners supplied by Chuck Zimmerman.

Happy Landings,

Mike Piccirilli
