From The President - By Mike Piccirilli

Dear Members,

Spirit has been sending letters out every couple of weeks relating the status of the airport. Spirit is scheduled to reopen on October 1. They are letting airplanes land now but take-offs are forbidden. It sounds like all the hangers, runways and taxlways are in good shape but the FBOs and such need alot of work! I'm real tied up at work and didn't even find time to get my 1/2 hour in last month. I'm looking for volunteers to ferry the plane back over to Spirit on or after October 1.

The ailerons seem to be a bit out of rig. Chuck Zimmerman and I flew last month and the airplane flew straight and level but the wheel was cocked to the left. The mechanic that replaced the aileron is worklog out of Weiss part-time and will take a look at it next week.

Charlie McMullin flew to Indiana this past month and reported problems with the VORs. Chuck and I checked them when we flew and could find nothing wrong. Let me know if anyone else experiences a problem with them.

Charlie represented us at the appeal on Sept. 7. Charlie reported that the court seemed to concentrate on the fact that we did not prove the airplane was being towed by a motor vehicle. He said we should know the outcome in a month or two.

The annual is coming due in November and the oil change is right around the corner. Chuck is organizing both events and will let us know more as the time approaches.

Happy Landings,

Mike Piccirilli
