St Louis Flying Club |
I finally found time and warmer weather to go flying and noticed that some of the rest of you have also. I went night flying and can happily say that everything, including all the lights, worked perfectly. I used the aircraft speaker and mike with primarily radio #1, though I also used radio #2 for ATIS. Marlin told me that Todd and he had problems with the landing light circuit breaker tripping occasionally a couple days prior to my flight. I had no issues with it and I kept it on throught out taxi, take-off, and a full circuit of the pattern.
The seam on one side of the cowl plugs has come apart. Is anybody good with a needle and thread to patch it up? Thanks to Jeff for adding the carbon monoxide indicator in the aircraft! I threw a roll of paper towels in the storage locker. Another word of caution to take a shovel with you when you go flying. It can help you work on the patch of ice that forms in front of the hangar from the melt off the hangar roof.
I obtained an updated value of the C-172 through my AOPA membership using their Aircraft Valuation Service. Since November 1999, the aircraft value has increased from $44,727 to $49,254. The split out of the increase is:
Nov 99 | Jan 01 | |
---|---|---|
Avg Aircraft Retail | $41,000 | $46,000 |
Low TIme | $ 2,707 | $ 3,038 |
Time SMOH | $ 1,370 | $ 816 |
Add'l Equip | $ 1,700 | $ 1,700 |
Paint/Interior | $ 0 | $ 0 |
Damage History | $- 2,050 | $- 2,300 |
Valuation | $44,727 | $49,254 |
The jump in price was mainly driven by the increase in average retail price (sure beats the depreciation of cars). Since we have a relatively low total time and less than 50% of the TBO used we get increases. We also have the new radio and and the ILS receiver which is a plus over the average. The damage history deduction is the same 5% of the average retail price we have been using.
Action: Todd, please notify Nationair that the hull value should be increased.
Happy Landings!

From The Treasurer - From Marlin Sipe
The Treasury took a small step back this month, mainly because the fuel bill included about 2 months worth of fuel. It still seems to alternate months... almost zero, then 2 months worth. Overall we are looking good with the Treasury, and we are way ahead on saving for the Annual. The extra $10 per month in the dues is intended to help build the Treasury for paint touch-up, and it is definitely helping with the balance.
I included the new valuation of the plane, which feeds into the share value. That puts the share value over $7000 now.
To start the new year, I took a wild guess at what the Personal Property Tax might be. It went up about 10% last year. For this year, I'm starting with a guess at about a 7% increase. When we get the assessment later this year, we'll have a much better idea what it will be, and I'll adjust that as needed.
Just a side note... we are due for the 50 hour oil change.

The club Insurance Policy has been added to the website. A "Club Insurance" button has been added to the members section to access the Policy. A version in Word is also available to download for your records. I will update the insurance page (as I get time) to add links to help make it easier to find what you are looking for. It was interesting to read the policy to see what we can and can't do.
